Eyeless Jack (Origin)

Jack was a teenager who worked in a local newspaper. One day, his boss made an announcement that the United States had entered World War II and Jack deigned to join the military to fight for America and defend his country. Soon he became friends with an Englishman named Louis, who also had enlisted there, as his people were attacked and had the need to defend him.
Jack and Louis became best friends, and all the other soldiers began to get along very well, until they came to be called brothers.
The young men were about to launch toward the enemy lines, but in the end it turned out that the enemy side moved before them. A poisonous gas was thrown around the base, causing Jack to go blind. During the riot, Louis was shot. Both were sent to a hospital a few miles away. While in the hospital, Jack began to cry because of the pain his eyes caused him, so the doctors took a drastic measure and took his eyes off. Still blind, Jack refused to leave his precious friend. Louis was being taken care of by a nurse named Betsy, who was born in the United States, moved to Norway, and went to help wounded nurse soldiers. But one day after these, the nurse could not save his life, Louis grabbed Jack's hand, but a few minutes later released it, and gave his last breath in that bed, as if going to sleep.
Jack wanted to cry, but he no longer had eyes to do so, so he bit his lip to the point that it began to bleed. The doctors then took the body away from his friend and led him to bury him; He stayed asleep in that room for about 3 days.

The next day the doctor read him a telegram from Betsy, indicating where the bodies of the dead soldiers had been buried, Jack went there and found the place where Louis was buried. Jack said goodbye, then returned to his home in the United States.

But only more sadness awaited him there. When he arrived, his mother received him with tears when he saw that he had no eyes. Jack asked her if anything else had happened to be like this, being usually so cheerful and full of so much energy, then she said Marcos, Jack's brother, who worked in a factory, had died from particles impregnated in the air.

Jack wanted to mourn for the loss of his brother, but without even thinking about it a week later lamented the loss of his mother, who is said to have probably died for that great sadness. Jack was alone. His father had died of tuberculosis when he was five. And now Louis, Mark and his mother had also died. There was no one there to guide this blind man, to comfort him, even to give him something as important as a hug.
One night, Jack walked around his old room until he reached an old wooden desk where he kept a gun, was loaded and ready to fire, in case a thief would ever enter and try to hurt him or his mother, But she was gone, there was only one use for that weapon now. Jack opened his mouth, aimed the gun in his throat and pulled the trigger. His vocal cords and trachea were shattered in a milli-second.

His body fell to the ground, but to his surprise, he was still alive. The sudden flash of the shots had caused something in his mind that made him forget everything that had happened to him before his death. He was confused as to why he had done it. Unable to escape, he stayed in the house waiting for an answer, until he remembered World War II, the soldiers and the rest, made him lose his head.
